Peter’s Laptop — Lancelot

I had been wanting a laptop while still in high school, so when graduation gifts began coming in, I started saving up my money to get a nice laptop when the time was right. I waited well over a year before I got this one from my former supervisor in CharacterLink, Ben Walsh. He refurbished it and sold it to me for a reduced price, since I got it around the time of my birthday :-). I was looking for a name by which to call my laptop (something other than “Laptop” or “the Laptop” or “Peter’s toy” or something to that effect). While chatting online with a friend, the name hit me—Lancelot! I chose that name for several reasons:

  1. Lancelot is quite the unique name, and I wanted the name to stand out from the rest
  2. My laptop was going to be hooked up on a LAN (local area network) at my house
  3. Sir Lancelot was known all across the world for his bravery, courage, and noble deeds, and I thought that makes a pretty good namesake for my laptop
  4. My laptop is silver, just like Sir Lancelot’s armor was, back in the day
  5. Lancelot starts with the first two letters of laptop, and lastly…
  6. I plan to use the computer a LOT!!

Hardly a day goes by when I don’t use my laptop. Every morning, Lancelot is right there by my bedside, ready to wake me up with some peppy music. Then, I usually come back at night and spend some quality time with him working on my website or transferring pictures from my camera. He even gets to come with me on trips! So far, he’s been to four states, with state number five only two weeks away!

For those who are interested, I’ve listed below some of my laptop’s specs:
  • 15.1" Super XGA display

  • 512MB DDR RAM
  • Windows XP Professional

  • 8x / 24x8x4x DVD/CD-RW combo drive
  • second CD drive with swappable floppy drive
  • 40GB hard drive

  • Other: firewire, infrared, 56k modem, 10/100 ethernet, audio, etc.
